After twice banning and re-banning TikTok, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun censoring content on the application through individual account bans. It recently suspended the account of controversial media personality Mia Khalifa in Pakistan. However, she is not easily swayed.
According to Dawn, the PTA agreed to suspend her account in the country without explaining how or why. Her Pakistani fans became aware of the ban and took to Twitter to express their outrage. Khalifa was quickly informed of the situation, which caught her off guard.
“A shout-out to Pakistan for blocking my TikTok account. I’m going to start re-posting all my TikToks on Twitter for my Pakistani fans…,” she added.
Some Pakistanis were not pleased with the PTA’s decision and reacted angrily on Twitter.
What is Mia Khalifa’s background?
Mia Khalifa, a controversial media personality, webcam model, and sports commentator, has been often chastised for her previous association with the porn industry. Mia sometimes receives derogatory messages from trolls. She was also threatened with death by the Islamic State.
According to the BBC, Khalifa received death threats in 2015 after becoming the most-searched-for celebrity on an adult movie website. She also said that the messages were “pretty frightening.”
Her image was Photoshopped onto a figure wearing an orange jumpsuit, evoking pictures of Islamic State radicals threatening hostages.
