PESHAWAR: Shah Rukh Ali Khan, Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (FS&HFA). Has stated that the body intends to build a modern food analysis Peshawar laboratory (Food Assessment Lab). For which Rs141,69 million of PC-1 was prepared.
Apart from the static laboratory. Two mobile food testing laboratories at the division level at a cost of Rs52 million would be established.
On Monday, Shah Rukh told the media that the authority had dispatched all necessary personnel and provided the Food Analysis Laboratory’s required equipment in Hayatabad.
He stated that the lab would assist the authority in eliminating food adulteration. To ensure the public’s access to safe and healthy food.
According to the official, the authority began its work in seven divisional headquarters in the province. Which has now expanded to 15 more districts, but where food safety teams ensure quality food through various interventions.
He emphasized the importance of food handler training and stated that the authority would open a training school in Peshawar soon. Followed by similar schools in the rest of the province.
Similarly, He stated that the authority was establishing a central medical screening laboratory in Peshawar to combat the spread of infectious diseases through food outlets. Several such labs would established at the divisional level in the coming phase.
According to the official, the authority has inspected 23,625 food-related businesses in the province in the last two months. 62,242 kg/liters of adulterated and substandard material discarded across the region during these raids. Food Assessment Lab
Also, 273 businesses shut down for violating SOPs, and they fined Rs7.2 million. In the first two months of this year, the authority registered 2,822 food businesses but resulting in Rs9.6 million in funds.
