WhatsApp is making life a little easier for everyone who regularly sends scanned documents. In its latest beta update for Android (version 2.25.19.21), the app has quietly rolled out a handy new feature — a built-in document scanner. No more switching between apps or using your phone’s default camera and then cropping awkward edges. With this update, WhatsApp is bringing everything under one roof.

Currently available to selected beta testers via the Google Play Store, this new scanner tool pops up when you go to share a document. A new option called “Scan Document” appears, which launches your camera directly within the app and shows a live preview. This helps users frame their documents properly and get a clean, high-quality scan.

You can choose between two scanning modes: automatic and manual. The automatic mode does the work for you — it captures the image as soon as the document is well-aligned and in full view. For those tricky situations where lighting or angles aren’t ideal, the manual mode gives you control to snap the shot yourself. This thoughtful detail ensures the feature is usable in real-world conditions.

So who benefits the most? Pretty much anyone who’s ever needed to send a photo of their ID, receipts, handwritten notes, application forms, or any paper-based info. Whether you’re a student submitting a form, a freelancer sending receipts, or just helping someone with paperwork, this new feature promises a faster, cleaner, and more convenient way to share documents — without leaving the WhatsApp ecosystem.

While this feature is still in beta testing, its presence signals WhatsApp’s growing interest in productivity features, beyond just messaging. If all goes well in testing, it could soon be available to all users in a future update.
