The assembly had trash, but those female senators weren’t part of it
Respected, Khawaja Asif although we listened to what you had to say about numerous PTI women leaders in the National Assembly, we are regrettably unsurprised. Not that you ever made any great efforts to disguise your sexism, but it is now once again evident.
You’re quite the serial offender—I immediately think of a specific tractor-trolley remark—and you never show regret. It appears that the National Assembly floor is where you exhibit the most of your sexism since there, you are free to express yourself without much restraint from your colleagues..
No one has criticized you for this, including Maryam Nawaz, Sherry Rehman, Shazia Marri, Marriyum Aurangzeb, your niece and PML-N leader Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Marriyum Aurangzeb, who was sitting directly behind you and couldn’t have missed your derogatory and truly disgusting remarks. If only individuals around you, especially those who otherwise seem to be advocates for women’s rights, would let you know how repulsive your statements are. Just though the perpetrator is someone close to them or their party doesn’t give them the right to remain silent.
Although our readers do, you don’t need a reminder of what you stated. You referred to the PTI senators Fawzia Arshad, Sania Nishtar, Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur, and Falak Naz Chitrali as residual trash. You described them as the PTI’s “ruins,” “leftover filth and waste,” and other such terms. You remarked, “Depraved women should not lecture on chastity,” adding, “This is the garbage left here, which has to be cleaned.”
We wouldn’t have to explain to you why what you stated is incorrect if you were anybody else. But it’s obvious that neither you nor your other classmates, who applauded as you spread hatred on the assembly floor, perceive anything wrong.
What in the world makes you believe that acting in this manner towards anyone is acceptable? It is disgusting to use language like this towards anyone, man or woman, and it should never be tolerated anywhere, much less at an assembly. Given that you don’t respect the assembly’s members either, we are unsure if talking about decorum and honoring the assembly will have any impact on you.
You shouldn’t need constant reassurance to use proper etiquette at your young age of 73. And now your daughter is being exposed to this garbage. Since filth doesn’t always stay confined in a tidy little box the way you want it to, social media is flooded with images and videos of people who had nothing to do with this. Whether it is fair or not, whether they were participating or not, that garbage spreads and taints everyone concerned.
You’re correct that the assembly has to be cleaned up of any trash, however it seems like you’ve confused what exactly constitutes trash.
