The iPhone 13 is here, and with a slew of new features such as improved battery life and a smaller notch, there are plenty of reasons to upgrade for iOS users. However, the release of a new iPhone is typically accompanied by the discontinuation of several devices from Apple’s smartphone lineup, and this year is no exception.

Apple is discontinuing the iPhone XR, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max as part of a reorganization of its product lineup.

Four new iPhone models join the lineup: the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple’s need to clear inventory is unsurprising. After all, Apple can only manufacture a limited number of devices, and the launch of the iPhone 13 range means that some older models will be phased out.

While introducing a new iPhone is an annual event, it’s still a little disappointing to see some of our favourite previous models eliminated.

These iPhones are on the verge of extinction.

"sunday plus", The iPhone 13's launch has effectively killed the iPhone XR and iPhone 12 Pro.

Unfortunately, not every iPhone survived intact during this round of cuts, and a few former favourites will be saying their final farewells as they enter the clearance phase of their lifecycle.

We’re bidding farewell to the iPhone 12 family’s premium members: the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. This is unsurprising, as these are devices aimed squarely at technology enthusiasts, most of whom will almost certainly be early adopters of the iPhone 13.

However, we anticipate that carriers and retailers will continue to sell the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, most likely at discounted prices.

Additionally, this year marks the end of the iPhone XR. This more affordable version of the iPhone X was launched in 2018 and introduced many users to the iPhone’s now-standard Super Retina display. iPhone XR, we’ll always remember you fondly!
