Due to the forecast of “inclement weather and rain” over the next two days, the Pakistan Day parade scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) has postponed. The media arm of the military said in a statement on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations Office, the parade will now take place on March 25.

“The Joint Services Pakistan Day Parade is scheduled to take place on 25 March 2021”, the statement says. On March 23, 1940, the All-India Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution, which demanded a separate nation for the Muslims of the British Indian Empire.

The day normally starts with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad, followed by 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. The Pakistan Day Parade takes place at Parade Ground in Islamabad, near the Shakarparian Hills. Civil and military chiefs, as well as foreign dignitaries, attend the annual parade. To commemorate the day, fly-past demonstrations are held.

The parade also highlights the four provinces’ distinct cultures. The ceremony features cultural delegates and floats from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. However, last year’s festivities cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, with leaders vowing to fight the country’s Covid-19 outbreak.

Concerns had raised about this year’s festivities as the third wave of the novel coronavirus spread throughout the world, with over 3,000 new cases identified in the last five days. However, Minister for Planning Asad Umar told Dawn earlier that the Pakistan Day parade would not cancel or restricted.

“During the parade, we have already addressed all plans and SOPs, and it will be held with the usual zeal. However, we found that the local administrative units and Islamabad aren’t strictly implementing the SOPs. So they’ve all told to make sure they’re followed, “he had said.
