At least 108 more people have died due to the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll in Pakistan to 18,537 as the country battles the coronavirus’s third wave.

According to official data released by the National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday, 4,198 cases were registered in the last 24 hours, with 46,467 tests performed across the country.

The coronavirus positivity rate has been determined to be 9.03 per cent.

Active cases total 84,172, with national recoveries totalling 743,124.

About 5,624 coronavirus patients are also admitted into 631 hospitals in the country, with 651 fan patients.

Punjab continues to be the worst-affected province, both in terms of recorded cases and deaths, followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.

Punjab recorded the highest death toll in the last 24 hours, with 68 fatalities.

Due to the growing number of coronavirus cases, the Punjab government has decided to enforce a complete lockdown on the province from May 8 to May 16.

As stated by Geo News, the decision was made during a meeting presided over by provincial health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid. During the session, the government voted to prohibit all sports in the province on the specified days and suspend public transportation and close all recreational areas. In addition, according to the provincial government, checkpoints will be established at the city’s entry and exit points, with police, Rangers, and army personnel deployed to control the situation.
