The much-anticipated trailer for ‘Despicable Me 4’ has made its debut, reintroducing the cherished characters of Gru, Lucy, the girls, and, of course, the Minions. Scheduled for release on July 3, 2024, the animated comedy marks the latest addition to the immensely successful franchise by Universal and Illumination, promising a joyous return to the world of Gru.

Voiced by the talented Steve Carrell, Gru, a reformed supervillain turned family man, takes center stage alongside Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Chris Renaud, Dana Gaier, and Pierre Coffin, reprising their roles from the previous films.

Adding a fresh twist to the storyline, ‘Despicable Me 4’ introduces new voices to the ensemble, including Will Ferrell, Joey King, Sofia Vergara, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, and Madison Polan. Ferrell takes on the role of Maxime Le Mal, a formidable new adversary for Gru with world-domination aspirations, while Vergara lends her voice to Valentina, Maxime’s glamorous and dangerous girlfriend. The narrative also unfolds a new chapter in Gru and Lucy’s life with the arrival of their baby boy, Gru Jr.

Since its debut in 2010, the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise has enjoyed global acclaim, and the third installment, released in 2017, surpassed the ‘Shrek’ series as the highest-grossing animated film franchise of all time, grossing over $1 billion worldwide.

Integral to the franchise’s success are the lovable Minions, the yellow, gibberish-speaking companions who aid Gru in his endeavors. Their popularity has led to spinoff movies, including ‘Minions’ and ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru.’

Chris Meledandri, co-founder of Illumination, serves as the producer, with Chris Renaud, director of the first two films, and Patrick Delage, making his feature debut, taking the helm. Mike White, known for his work on films like ‘School of Rock’ and ‘The Emoji Movie,’ assumes the role of the writer.

As the teaser hints at new adventures for these beloved characters, fans are left eagerly anticipating whether the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise can recapture its momentum after the events of ‘Despicable Me 3.”
