Famous actress Yashma Gill recently shared an emotional chapter of her life, revealing that her father stopped speaking to her for an entire year when she decided to join the entertainment industry.

During a recent appearance on Shan‑e‑Sahoor on ARY Digital, the actress spoke openly about the struggles she faced at the start of her career. Her story highlights the challenges many young people face when trying to follow their passion while also respecting family values.

A Different Beginning

Before becoming a familiar face on Pakistani television, Yashma Gill had a very different career path planned. Her parents sent her to Sydney for higher education, where she studied psychology. After completing her degree, she returned to Karachi and started working at a hospital as a psychologist.

Although the job was respectable, it came with a very small salary. Gill recalled how demanding the work was and how little financial stability it provided. Despite her efforts, she felt she was not able to support her family in the way she wanted.

The Moment That Changed Everything

Gill shared a touching moment that completely changed her perspective. One night, she returned home from a late shift and noticed her elderly father getting ready to leave for work early in the morning.

Seeing him still working so hard at his age deeply affected her. At that moment, she realized she wanted to help ease his burden financially. She knew that the entertainment industry could offer better opportunities, but she was also aware that her father might not approve of such a decision.

According to Gill, she discussed the idea with her mother first. She told her, “Even if Baba gets angry, God knows my intention. I am doing this to help him.” Her mother supported her choice, understanding the sincerity behind her decision.

A Difficult Reaction from Her Father

However, the reaction from her father was not what she had hoped for. Like many parents, he had concerns about the entertainment industry and the stigma often associated with it in society. Because of this, he struggled to accept his daughter’s decision.

Gill revealed that her father was so upset that he stopped speaking to her completely. For almost a year, there was silence between them.

For the young actress, this period was extremely painful. She had entered showbiz with the intention of supporting her family, yet it created a distance between her and the person she wanted to help the most.

Ramadan Brought a Turning Point

The situation slowly began to change during the holy month of Ramadan. One day, when her father entered the room, Gill greeted him and gently reminded him that responding to greetings is an obligation in Islam.

That small moment broke the silence that had lasted for nearly a year. It opened the door for communication and slowly helped heal the emotional distance between them.

A Special Umrah Trip

Gill shared that their relationship improved even more when she later took her father for Umrah to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

During the trip, something unexpected happened. Many fans recognized the actress and approached her with admiration and respect. Some even brought gifts and kind words for her.
