Film industry fans were left shocked after news spread that legendary actor Dharmendra had passed away. However, the actor’s daughter, Esha Deol, has cleared the air, saying that her father is very much alive and recovering.

Esha took to Instagram on Tuesday to dismiss the rumors, writing that her father, 89, is “stable and recovering” after spending more than a week in the hospital. She added, “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery.” In her post, comments were disabled, likely to prevent further misinformation.

Reports had claimed that Dharmendra was on ventilator support since 10 November after being admitted for breathlessness. On Monday, some media outlets described his condition as “critical.” This is not the first time the actor has faced health challenges; in April, he underwent eye graft surgery.

Family members, including his wife Hema Malini, sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and grandsons Karan and Rajveer, were by his side in the hospital. Many Bollywood stars also checked in to show their support, including Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan, Salman Khan, Govinda, and Ameesha Patel.

Unfortunately, the situation became more confusing as some prominent Indian politicians and public figures shared messages of condolence online. India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, posted on social media expressing sadness over Dharmendra’s supposed demise, praising the actor’s contributions to Indian cinema. “Deeply saddened by the demise of veteran actor and former MP Shri Dharmendra ji. A versatile actor who brought life to many memorable characters with his unmatched charm and sincerity. His remarkable contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers,” he wrote.

Even Hema Malini, Dharmendra’s wife, spoke out against the false news. On X (formerly Twitter), she criticized media outlets for spreading misinformation. “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy,” she wrote.

Adding to the confusion, renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar also shared condolences on social media, praising Dharmendra as “a perfect combination of masculinity and gentleness … Dignity and humility … Charm and power,” while offering his “deepest condolences to the Deol family.” This came even as Esha Deol confirmed her father’s recovery.

Dharmendra, often called the “He-Man” of Bollywood, has been a part of the Indian film industry for decades. Known for his charisma, versatility, and action-packed roles, he starred in iconic films such as Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl. He was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.

Fans across the country are now relieved to know that Dharmendra is stable and on the road to recovery. This incident also serves as a reminder about the dangers of spreading unverified news, especially about public figures, and the importance of giving families the privacy and respect they deserve.
