When family disputes spill into the public eye, they often spark as much curiosity as they do concern. This week, Bollywood’s “Mr. Perfectionist” Aamir Khan found himself in the headlines — not for a movie release, but for a deeply personal controversy involving his brother Faissal Khan.
The Allegations
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Faissal made a series of serious claims against his family, alleging that they labelled him schizophrenic and “a mad person” capable of harming society. Most strikingly, he accused Aamir of keeping him under “house arrest” for more than a year in Mumbai, saying he was trapped in a “chakravyuh” (vicious cycle) where the entire family seemed to be against him.
Faissal painted a picture of isolation, saying he prayed for his father’s help — who was living separately at the time — but could not reach him. Eventually, he claimed, Aamir allowed him to move into another home after more than a year of confinement.
A Rare United Front from the Khan Family
Following the interview, Aamir Khan and several members of the extended Khan family issued a rare joint statement, calling Faissal’s version of events “hurtful and misleading.” The statement was signed by an unusually long list of relatives — including Reena Datta, Junaid Khan, Ira Khan, Kiran Rao, Mansoor Khan, Nuzhat Khan, and Imran Khan.
It stressed that every decision regarding Faissal had been taken collectively, after consultation with medical professionals, and always “based on love, compassion, and concern for his emotional and psychological wellbeing.”

The family also expressed distress at what they described as Faissal’s “misleading portrayal” of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. They noted that this was not the first time such claims had been made, but felt compelled to respond publicly in order to “clarify intentions and reaffirm solidarity as a family.”
A Complicated History
The relationship between Aamir and Faissal has been strained for years. Back in the 2000s, their dispute made headlines when Faissal was involved in a legal battle over relinquishing his signing powers. He also underwent a 20-day mental health evaluation at JJ Hospital — where doctors ultimately declared him mentally fit.
The brothers last worked together on the 2000 film Mela, alongside Twinkle Khanna. Since then, Faissal has largely stayed away from mainstream Bollywood projects, occasionally making headlines for his personal statements and independent work.

Public Reaction and Moving Forward
The latest round of allegations has reignited public interest in the Khan family’s long-standing tensions. While some fans expressed sympathy for Faissal’s claims, others urged caution, reminding that family disputes are complex and often have layers the public never sees.
Aamir Khan, known for keeping his personal life intensely private, has so far chosen to address the matter only through the joint statement, without offering further details. The family has requested the media and the public to handle the situation sensitively, given its deeply personal nature.
