Bollywood has a new box office darling, and its name is Saiyaara. In just nine days since its release, the romantic drama has taken the industry by storm — becoming the second biggest hit of 2025 and inching closer to the coveted Rs300 crore mark. What makes this feat even more impressive is that the film stars two complete newcomers in the lead roles.

Directed by Mohit Suri — the man behind hits like Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain — Saiyaara tells the emotional story of Krish Kapoor, an aspiring musician, and Vaani Batra, a reclusive writer. Their love unfolds in tender moments, deep conversations, and a shared passion for art, only to be tested by heartbreak and life’s unpredictable turns. It’s classic Suri — soulful, sad, and stirring — but with a fresh face and a timeless soundtrack.

By the end of its ninth day, Saiyaara had earned Rs217.25 crore in India alone, and the numbers are only climbing. On its second Saturday, the film pulled in Rs26.5 crore, showing an impressive 50% increase from the previous day’s earnings. This kind of momentum — especially in the second weekend — is rare, particularly for a romantic film that doesn’t lean on action or big-name stars.

Globally, Saiyaara is also making noise. It crossed the $1 million mark in overseas markets in a single day, a rare accomplishment for a film driven purely by emotion and music rather than spectacle. Its current worldwide gross stands at Rs282 crore — with Rs229 crore from India and Rs53 crore from international markets. The film has now overtaken Housefull 5 to become 2025’s second-highest-grossing film, right behind Chhawaa, which still dominates with Rs601 crore.

So what’s behind Saiyaara’s stunning success?

For starters, the chemistry between debutants Ahaan Pandey and Anit Pada has been a major talking point. Critics have praised their raw, heartfelt performances, and audiences have responded with standing ovations and repeat viewings. The film’s soundtrack, too, has become a runaway hit, topping music charts across South Asia. Tracks like Tum Bin, Mitti Ki Khushboo, and the title song Saiyaara are already being hailed as modern-day classics.

But beyond the performances and music, it’s the emotional depth of the story that’s truly resonating with viewers. At a time when loud action films often dominate the box office, Saiyaara offers something quieter, deeper — a reminder that love stories still have a place in Indian cinema, and that newcomers, if given the right script, can shine as brightly as any superstar.

As trade experts predict that the film could soon cross the Rs300 crore mark, industry insiders are calling it a “game-changer” — not just for its young stars, but for the genre itself.

Spread the love
