UMT proudly stands at the forefront of academic institutions contributing to Pakistan’s strategic defense—particularly in Electronic Warfare, sensor fusion, and radar technologies. A shining example is Mr. Faran Awais Butt, who, while at UMT in 2015, secured Pakistan’s first-ever U.S. patent in Electronic Warfare, later dedicating it to the nation’s defense infrastructure.
Under the visionary guidance of the late Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, UMT became a launchpad for innovative research that extends well beyond classroom learning. Mr. Butt’s involvement as Principal Investigator on a NESCOM-funded project (2023–2024) further cements UMT’s standing as a trusted partner in defense-related R&D.
Thanks to UMT’s strong research culture—recognized by federal awards like the Young Leaders Development Award—the university continues to invest in frontier areas including AI, radar systems, and cyber-physical infrastructure. As President Ibrahim Murad says, “Institutions rise when their people commit to service beyond self. And nations rise when their universities become engines of truth, innovation, and transformation.”
Today, UMT alumni and faculty are making a global impact, with Mr. Butt now at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Saudi Arabia, pursuing groundbreaking work in Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC). His journey from UMT labs to the international stage highlights UMT’s enduring legacy of excellence, patriotism, and innovation.
