LONDON 17-year-old boy is being questioned by Merseyside Police after a horrifying attack at a children’s dance and yoga class left two dead and six critically injured. The incident, which occurred at Hart Space community center, saw nine children and two adults hurt, with the adults believed to have bravely tried to shield the children.
The suspect, reportedly from Cardiff but residing near Southport, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Police are not treating the incident as terror-related and are not seeking other suspects.
The seaside resort town, often called “sunny Southport,” was left in shock. Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as “horrendous and deeply shocking,” while King Charles III and Prince William expressed their deep sympathies.
Witnesses likened the scene to a horror movie, with bloodied children fleeing the venue. Local shop owner Bare Varathan described seeing children with stab wounds on their necks, backs, and chests. Another witness, Colin Parry, recounted the suspect arriving by taxi and acting aggressively.
