Pakistan is gearing up for another significant space endeavor with the impending launch of its latest satellite, MM1, scheduled for May 30. Developed through a collaborative effort between SUPARCO and the National Space Agency, MM1 aims to bolster the nation’s communication infrastructure.

Designed to meet the burgeoning demands of the telecom sector, MM1 is expected to revolutionize 5G internet services across the country. This initiative comes on the heels of Pakistan’s successful maiden lunar mission, ICUBE Qamar, which recently achieved the milestone of entering the moon’s orbit.

Equipped to operate in challenging conditions, MM1 boasts a specialized 7kg one-megapixel camera tailored for missions with stringent power constraints. Despite facing temperatures as low as minus 100 degrees Celsius, the satellite is primed to transmit images at a rate of 1-kbps, enabling surface-level analysis of the moon.

The data collected by MM1 promises invaluable insights into the moon’s terrain, including the identification of crater locations, water deposits, and traces of ice. Such findings hold immense significance for global scientific research and exploration endeavors.
