Renowned Pakistani scriptwriter Bee Gul and director Rafay Rashdi have collaborated on the highly anticipated short film, ‘Jamun Ka Darakht,’ which has been officially selected to be featured at the esteemed Cannes World Film Festival. This marks a significant achievement for the Pakistani film industry, showcasing its talent on the global stage.
Director Rafay Rashdi proudly shared the news on his Facebook page, unveiling the film’s official poster adorned with the Cannes laurel. In January, Rashdi had treated audiences to the film’s first trailer on Instagram, offering a glimpse into the intricate storytelling that promises a thought-provoking cinematic experience.
The trailer, carefully crafted to maintain an air of secrecy around specific character details, hints at a narrative exploring manipulative dynamics orchestrated by Adnan Siddiqui’s character. The film delves into sensitive themes such as harassment, sexual assault, and blind lust, promising a nuanced exploration of consensuality between individuals.

The return of esteemed actor Adnan Siddiqui to the silver screen, alongside supermodels Maha Tahirani and Fouzia Aman, adds a layer of talent to the film. ‘Jamun Ka Darakht,’ collaboratively produced by Rafay Rashdi Productions, Syed Murad Ali & Wah-Wah Productions, and Faisal Kapadia, pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling.
With its commitment to discomfort, depth, and thought-provoking storytelling, the film is poised to make a profound impact. It invites viewers to step into a realm where storytelling transcends boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape.

The Cannes World Film Festival is known for spotlighting films and documentaries that address themes of human rights, social justice, health, and disability. The festival’s jury, comprising seven members from various artistic and cultural fields, selects films for the ‘Best of Future’ category, presenting them to the public during monthly screenings at ‘Cineum Cannes.’
The official selection of ‘Jamun Ka Darakht’ at Cannes not only reflects the talent and creativity of the Pakistani film industry but also positions the film on an international platform.
