Pakistan’s Miss Universe, Erica Robin, has sparked a social media storm with her recent Instagram posts featuring daring fashion statements during her visit to the Baba Beach Club in Thailand.
The 24-year-old beauty queen, celebrated for her historic representation of Pakistan at the 72nd Miss Universe pageant, raised eyebrows as she confidently showcased a bold ensemble. Comprising revealing denim hotpants, a white crop top, a floral shrug, a matching bandana, chic sunglasses, and small hoop earrings, Robin’s fashion choice ignited a heated debate on the intersection of fashion, cultural norms, and individual expression.
However, not all responses were positive. Criticism poured in from followers who questioned the alignment of Robin’s fashion choices with cultural expectations. One commenter expressed doubt, stating, “Isn’t she the one who claimed to dress according to our culture? I’m having trust issues now.” Another questioned the necessity of wearing such attire, commenting, “Is it necessary to wear this kind of revealing dress to blend in with the people?”
Despite the backlash, there were voices defending the beauty queen. One supporter clarified, “She represents our culture only at Miss Universe, not at beaches.” Another urged understanding, saying, “What is wrong with you all? She only represents our culture in Miss Universe. She is a Pakistani minority. She can dress however she likes.”
A particularly supportive comment stood out, praising Robin for making history as the first-ever Miss Universe contestant to represent Pakistan. The comment noted her modesty during the pageant’s swimsuit segment last year, where she wore a pink burkini that covered her whole body. The commenter expressed respect, saying, “You made history by presenting Pakistan in a decent way in the biggest contest in the world.”
Erica Robin, a Karachi native, continues to be a subject of conversation, challenging perceptions of cultural representation and individual expression in the diverse landscape of Pakistan’s fashion scene.
