The advertisements on the pedestrian bridges across the city are contrary to the Supreme Court’s order, These shocking views were revealed by Amir Siddiqui , President Sindh Outdoor Advertiser Association in a press conference on Tuesday held at Karachi Press Club.
He said that Supreme Court’s orders were being floated in the city. The Code of Conduct should be made according to the Supreme Court’s order in 2018. Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab is favoring his blue eyed friends. The multi-billion rupee tax-paying industry is at the verge of destruction. We do not accept the forcible occupation of the signboards of Karachi city. Mayor Karachi should tell us under which law is the permission being given for signboards on public property across the city. In 2006, there were 400 companies in this industry and today there are 50 companies left in 2024. The signs on the pedestrian bridges across the city are contrary to the Supreme Court’s order. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is incurring a loss of Rs.2 billion due to the illegal advertisements pasted on the bridges. This blatant disregard for court orders is not only affecting public infrastructure but it is also significantly affecting the financial stability of the advertising industry.
The advertising sector which is a major contributor to the economy, pays substantial taxes and provides employment to thousands of families. So Mayor Karachi is not seriously taken this matter and the jobs of millions of peoples are in danger.
We have been working in this city for 20 years. The rules are changed after every 4-5years which causes huge loss to the industry. Secretary General of association Aamir Ali, Information Secretary Najeeb Farooqi, Finance Secretary Mohammad Ahmed, Mohammad Ishtiaq, Mohammad Javed and Zafar Butt also attended the press conference.
