Rome-An Italian court sentences the parents of Saman Abbas, a girl of Pakistani descent who was discovered dead in November 2022, to a lifetime of imprisonment.
High-level investigation was launched by Italian authorities after Saman’s horrific death. The primary accused and father of the deceased, Shabbar Abbas, was previously extradited from Pakistan to Italy to stand prosecution for murder.
Detained in his home village in Pakistan, Abbas and several family members were found guilty of murdering the girl because she refused to comply with her family’s insistence that she marry a relative in a country in South Asia.
Authorities saw the slain child on surveillance footage strolling about with her parents after her body was excavated from an abandoned house.
The most well-known criminal inquiry in recent years in the European country concerned the killing or abuse of immigrant girls who defied parental pressure was the Saman Abbas case.
It came to light throughout the investigation that Saman was meeting a person of her choosing. She and her partner were seen kissing on the street in a social media photo.
Her parents were displeased with the assignment and made her marry a relative in Pakistan. After that, in April 2021, the girl was secretly buried after being strangled; the tragedy stunned Italy.
Shabbar Abbas, the accused, sobbed in court, pleading for his innocence and expressing his desire to know who killed his daughter.
