NEW DELHI The scourge of sexual assault against women continues to stalk women in India, the nation with the largest population.
Several women were displayed nude by the perpetrators in Manipur, which led to widespread indignation and the intervention of local authorities.
According to reports in foreign media citing local officials, a case has been filed, one important accused has been taken into custody, and other suspects are still at large. In Kangpokpi district, the event included women from the Kuki-Zo ethnic tribe.
Although the event allegedly took place in early May, news of it broke this week when the footage was posted online and the Modi-led administration requested that the violent tapes be deleted in response to the uproar.
The horrific images depict the victims being taken into fields by offenders, who then grope them.
