Farhan Saeed, a Pakistani singer, recently talked about his experiences playing in India. He remembers singing a modified version of “Dil Dil Pakistan” there.

The vocalist discussed his time touring with the band Jal in India in a video by Brut India. He remembered how, in front of his Indian fans, he once startled the band by abruptly commencing the Pakistani nationalistic song “Dil Dil Pakistan” on stage.

“My band didn’t know what I was about to do,” Farhan recounted.I thus began to sing. “Aisi zameen, aur aasmaan” is the first line. My band started to ask me, “What is he doing?” when I started this. We are in India, and who or what is he?So I just said, “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing,” to them. I thus began as follows.

“And then I went like Dil Dil Pakistan, Jaan Jaan Hindustan,” he continued. The entire crowd went nuts when I did it. They started singing along with us from there. As a result, my band remarked, “Well done, wow.” What an excellent move. Everyone was ecstatic. We now perform it as part of a ritual.

Fortunately for the Jal, Farhan was able to influence the over 30,000 people present. “You do crazy things when you’re on that stage and because of that rush,” he stated.

Saeed also spoke on the political gap between India and Pakistan and its present effects on art and artists in a manner similar to his modified version. The musician, who is well-liked by fans and followers on both sides of the border, added that “arts and sports should be left alone, it shouldn’t be politicized at all.”
