Recently, a controversy has raged on social media about victim-blaming in rape cases. Social media users appear to be divided into two camps: those who believe that the way women dress determines whether they are raped or not. Those who think that tying rape to a woman’s clothing is illogical and that rape is instead about power and control abuse.

Numerous males, including several renowned celebrities, resorted to social media to voice their opinions on the growing trend of victim-blaming.

Among them was Pakistani film, television, and theatre actor Osman Khalid Butt, who resorted to Twitter to express his views. “Yes, desire, temptation, and attraction exist. Rape is not a result of this. Rape is a matter of power. Dominance, an absence of empathy, and animosity. It reduces a woman to a sexual object – or a man to a sexual object, or a child to a sexual object. It is demeaning,” the actor emphasized.

Usman Mukhtar, an actor, director, and cinematographer, weighed in on the subject, stating, “It occurs because the person perpetrating this horrible inhumane act is a criminal and the scum of the planet.” He said, “Please refrain from blaming the victim. It is time to act. It is past time to punish such soil dirt to the point where no one dares to perform such an act.”
