WhatsApp appears to have no intention of slowing down, as the firm is already working on a slew of new features. Recent reports from WaBetaInfo indicate that the messaging service is testing the ability to assist users in migrating their chat history from Android to iOS. According to a new source, the platform is now testing a significant security feature for both its desktop and web versions.
WhatsApp is apparently aiming to implement two-step verification solely to increase security, as a large number of users use the messaging programme for both professional and personal purposes. While the web and desktop versions of the service currently enable biometric authentication, the new feature will provide customers with additional security and protection against scammers.
Two-step verification will soon be available to desktop and browser users. According to an image released by WaBetaInfo, users will be presented with two options for enabling this feature. You can use WhatsApp to create a PIN or add an email address.
“After registering your WhatsApp account, a personal PIN will be required to log in after inputting the 6-digit number. WhatsApp aims to make two-step verification easier to manage across the board, and as such is working on incorporating the capability into the web/desktop client in a future release,” the report added.
Mobile users already have access to the same capability. As of now, it is unknown when this feature will be accessible for public beta testers, as the cited source indicates that it is still in the early stages of development. However, WhatsApp is anticipated to provide this capability later this year.
How do you safeguard your WhatsApp account?
Mobile users can currently enable both fingerprint authentication and two-step verification. This way, if someone steals your phone, they will be unable to access your WhatsApp conversations, as the programme will prompt them to enter a security PIN or scan their fingerprint.
The fingerprint lock feature is accessible via the app’s Privacy section. Simply navigate to Settings > Account to enable two-step verification. Once you’ve enabled biometric authentication on your smartphone, you’ll also need to unlock the app prior to connecting it to your account.
