Syeda Tuba Anwar has refuted former husband and PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat’s claims that Tuba is still his wife. She took to her Instagram account to clear the misunderstandings.
Tuba started in response to Liaquat’s comments, “I would want to clarify that I opted to divorce my ex-husband through the judicial system, as is my fundamental right as a Pakistani citizen.” She stated that the honorable court approved the divorce following Pakistani law.
She asked Islamic experts to support women who chose to use their rights following Sharia and Pakistan’s constitution.
“Islam permits women to seek divorce if their marriages are no longer working,” she said, adding that “eliminating a toxic and abusive marriage gracefully is a right, not a sin.”
Two weeks after announcing his third marriage, Liaquat stated that “Tuba is still his wife, and she has the right to return if she so desires.”
“I still respect her and consider her to be my wife,” he stated. “However, she views the marriage as null and void.”
On the other hand, in a recent interview, Syeda Dania Shah, Liaquat’s third wife, remarked: “I would accept Tuba if she returns.” I’m going to consider her to be my elder sister.”
