With the arrival of Ramadan, the peak season for retailers and wholesalers, many large stores frequently run scams disguised as ‘Ramadan discounts.‘ As Ramadan approaches, people tend to stock up on groceries in advance, preferably from a nearby store. However, it appears as though a large number of reputable retail establishments are engaged in the extortion of their customers.
Recently, a video has been circulating on social media in which consumers are urged to be cautious of Imtiaz Supermarket’s over-measuring fraud.
Imtiaz Supermarket has earned consumers’ trust by providing superior quality and service, only to deceive them later. It has grown to become Pakistan’s largest retail chain. In the video, customers complain about the store overcharging and selling fruit and vegetable packets at a weight that differs from what is indicated on the weight labels.

In the video, one of the customer’s questions the store’s staff. The labeled weight of packed green chilies did not match the weight on his scale. It’s not news that all of these large retailers that offer massive discounts engage in one or more scams to recoup their margins. Here is the video:
As it appears, manipulating the product’s weight and deceiving customers has become common in recent years. From small vendors to large superstores, it’s self-evident that corruption is pervasive. They are only concerned with lining their pockets by charging higher rates. Ironically, they are the ones who are offended when apprehended.
Additionally, as demonstrated, the store has no control over the imprinted weight on vegetables and fruits. After they objected, they remeasured everything. Indeed, near the end, he used their scale as well, and it was also significantly off. The sticker does not correspond to their scales. This, according to reports, is occurring not only in Karachi but also in other cities.
Last year, officials closed numerous Imtiaz Super Market locations across the country for violating COVID-19 SOPs. And it appears as though the situation will be similar in 2021 as well.
Regrettably, this heinous crime of weight manipulation and overpricing occurs in every corner of Pakistan. It’s worth noting that the same superstore has previously faced criticism for a variety of other reasons. The inspection team had previously fined Imtiaz Supermarket for the store’s unsanitary condition, and selling expired goods and meat. The mart was once again in the news in 2018 to sell expired and phony products and do credit card fraud.
