Netizens recently reprimanded Tiktoker Kanwal Aftab for telling a fan to’support’ and’motivate’ her abusive spouse in an effort to try and reform him.

In an Instagram Q&A, a female admirer questioned Aftab how a woman could deal with an abusive spouse when she couldn’t find a suitable job. The influencer then said, “Try to stand by him. Encourage him. Divorce is not an option.

Aftab’s problematic remark was picked up on by online users and her sizable following (estimated to be over 2.8 million), who chastised her for placing an excessive weight on the wife in a marriage.

Kanwal Ahmed, the founder of Soul Sisters Pakistan, posted a screenshot of Aftab’s response, instructing the Tiktoker that “women don’t get married to “fix” abusive men.” Or to encourage and justify their aggressive actions.

The influencer is not the only one who holds the divisive opinion that wives should be responsible for their violent husbands. It reflects a widely held belief in our culture that most women must’save’ marriages. However, it is very difficult to ‘correct’ another person’s nature. Unfortunately, no one can change a man or woman’s poisonous character; habits can only be changed if the other person wants to do so.
