A surgeon in a local Multan private hospital is fired for alleged neglect during several eye surgeries. According to reports, at least 16 people claimed that they had lost their eyesight some hours after their respective operations.

The operations allegedly took place in the private hospital on 20 March. As you say, it happened after having suffered pain in your eyes after the surgery. According to Rana Abdul Malik, all 16 people, seven women included, used the Sehat Insaf Card. It is a flagship public health initiative for the eye operations of the incumbent PTI government. The incident was reported in the Larr district of Multan. Speaking of Geo News, Dr. Hasnain Mushtaq revealed that the procedures were performed.

“The medicine was prescribed by the doctor and we all ended up in a hospital, whereby most of you were received,” the victim added. “Others were also forced to take medicine and requested to return home.” The patient said he went to two other physicians “who told me my eye had been hurt [and] why I went to the hospital.”

The victims are being treated.

When the hospital administration learned of the pain in their eyes, the 16 people were admitted and kept overnight. However, in the morning, they were discharged. All of whom have lost their eyesight are currently being treated in various Multan and Lahore hospitals.

Usman Buzdar, Chief Minister Punjab, had the matter investigated after he had notified the Department of Health of the case. And to take immediate action against those responsible for performing wrong eye operations.

CM Punjab directed the Health Secretary and the Multan Division Commissioner to submit an in-depth report. He also led the provincial health authorities to focus on treating the people affected and to disclose the facts behind the problem.

In the meantime, the victims have requested the superior authorities to investigate and bring justice to the incident. There has always been a debate among the masses about the failure of Pakistan’s medical facilities, whether it’s infrastructure, pseudo-doctors, or private medical facilities that make the poor’s money.
